The Academy Awards are not only a part of Americas history, but are also a mirror of the times. Beginning in 1934, a new category was added Best Song From a Motion Picture. And for the next seven decades, Oscar winners and nominees for best song have reflected the pulse of America. The first 25 years of Best Song From a Motion Picture not only reflects the history of America, but also The Golden Age of Hollywood. The list of best song winners and nominees during these years includes most of the leading songwriters of the 20th century, from Irving Berlin, Sammy Cahn, and George Gershwin to Harold Arlen, Harry Warren, Cole Porter and Johnny Mercer. Join Bobbi Carrey & Will McMillan for a history and appreciation of Academy Award nominees and winners during its first 25 years. Any history that includes both Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah and True Love is bound to be colorful.
